In a statement, Naivas said it has contained the attack, and systems are secure, adding that operations are normal.
Naivas becomes the recent victim of a ransomware attack by Threat Actor.
“Naivas regrets to announce that alongside many corporates and organizations in and outside Kenya, we have been the victims of a ransomware attack by an online criminal organization (Threat Actor),” a statement read.
However, the supermarket chain with retail shops across the country confirmed to have contained the situation.
“On becoming aware of the attack, Naivas took immediate steps to prevent external access and engaged leading cybersecurity experts CrowdStrike to ensure system integrity.
“This process is complete and our systems are secure,”
Naivas said it had engaged relevant law enforcement agencies as well as Office Data Protection Commissioner Kenya and an investigation is underway.
Further, the retailer confirmed that it does not hold any credit or debit card information in its system.
According to them, such information is securely stored through Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption.
They cautioned their customers to be vigilant of any phishing attempts by phone, SMS, or email.
