Seven soldiers from the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) narrowly avoided a tragic fate when their boat, laden with food supplies, capsized in the Indian Ocean near the Kiwayu Chandani area of the Kiunga ward in Lamu County.
The group, having set out from the Manda camp in Magogoni, Hindi ward, faced peril as they transported essential supplies.
Unfortunately, the boat succumbed to the powerful waves and high-speed winds, leading to its submersion in the ocean.

Despite the close proximity of local fishermen, the vessel went under before any rescue attempts could be made.
In a regrettable turn of events, all the food supplies on board, comprising bags of rice, potatoes, sugar, and oil, sank along with the boat. The soldiers were unable to salvage any of the crucial provisions.
