The National Basketball Association (NBA), which is based in New York, is planning to open an office in Nairobi in November this year.
This exciting news was announced by Hussein Mohamed, the spokesperson for the Kenyan State House.
President William Ruto, along with Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba, was present when Kenya signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the NBA in New York.
This agreement aims to bring significant improvements to basketball in Kenya.
“Kenya has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Basketball Association that will see phenomenal development of Basketball in Kenya,” said Mohamed.
The agreement, Mohamed went on, is also expected to culminate in “School and community-based grassroots talent development under the Talanta Hela Initiative, including training of teachers as certified basketball coaches and scouts.”
Additionally, the collaboration will result in the enhancement of local basketball facilities.
This includes the construction of basketball courts in schools and communities across the country
