The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced a Licence Revalidation Exercise for motor vehicle operators, set to commence on November 22, 2024.
In a recent notice, the NTSA emphasized that motor vehicle owners must adhere to this directive in accordance with Sections 23(1) and 24 of the Traffic Act Cap 403, which govern the licensing and regulation of motor vehicle and motorcycle dealers.
The revalidation exercise is scheduled to run from November 11 to November 22, 2024, targeting tow truck operators, both new and second-hand motor vehicle dealers, and motor vehicle repairers.
The NTSA requires operators to complete an online licence revalidation form available on their website, with a submission deadline of Wednesday, November 6, 2024.
After the online submissions, a Multi-Agency team will carry out physical inspections of the operators’ premises to verify the information provided in the revalidation forms.
The notice stressed the importance of accurate information to avoid any complications during this process.
For additional questions or information regarding the revalidation exercise, operators are encouraged to visit their nearest NTSA office or the NTSA Huduma Centre Help.
This initiative is part of the NTSA’s ongoing efforts to enhance road safety and tackle significant challenges in the transport sector.
The authority reports that around 3,000 lives are lost annually in road accidents, underscoring a critical public safety issue.
Many of these tragic incidents occur on weekends, during festive periods, and public holidays when traffic volumes peak.
Furthermore, accidents are most likely to happen between 5 PM and 8 AM, as reduced visibility and driver fatigue can impair judgment.
Drink-driving and reckless behavior are identified as major contributors to the alarming accident rates on the roads.
