The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has officially launched its application process for aspirants seeking to vie for various elective positions in the 2027 General Election, calling on interested party members to submit their bids for nomination.
In a notice issued on May 11, 2026, the party, through its National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC), invited qualified members to declare their interest in contesting under the ODM banner.
The move, the party noted, is anchored in Article 61(1) of the ODM Constitution, alongside Rule 7(T) and Part VIII of the party’s Elections and Nomination Rules, as part of efforts to facilitate a transparent and orderly nomination exercise ahead of the highly anticipated polls.
Positions Open for Application
ODM has opened applications for six elective positions:
- President
- Governor
- Senator
- County Woman Representative
- Member of the National Assembly (MP)
- Member of the County Assembly (MCA)
How to Apply for ODM Nomination
The entire application process will be conducted digitally through the party’s official aspirants’ portal: https://aspirants.odm-ke.com/.
Candidates have until June 30, 2026, to complete and submit their applications.
Before applying, members are advised to confirm their ODM membership details by dialling *483*036#, with the party emphasising that only registered voters will qualify for consideration in line with electoral regulations.
Five-Step Application Process
ODM has outlined a five-stage online application procedure:
1. Membership Verification
Applicants begin by entering their National ID number, allowing the system to retrieve and verify their membership records.
2. Personal Information Submission
Candidates are then required to provide basic details, including their membership category, gender, and date of birth.
3. Position Selection
Aspirants must choose the seat they intend to contest from the available categories. Depending on the office sought, applicants will also specify their county, constituency, and ward. The County Woman Representative slot is exclusively reserved for female party members.
4. Contact and Location Details
Applicants will submit their phone number, optional email address, and confirm their county, constituency, and ward of residence.
5. Review and Final Submission
The final stage allows candidates to review all entered information before confirming and submitting their application.
ODM has encouraged members seeking clarification to contact the National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) via neb@odm.co.ke or 0757 242 495.
ODM Navigates Political Pressure Amid 2027 Preparations
The announcement comes at a politically sensitive juncture for ODM as it balances preparations for the 2027 elections with its evolving cooperation framework with President William Ruto under the broad-based government arrangement.
By opening nominations early, ODM appears keen to demonstrate its intention to field candidates nationwide, even as concerns mount within the party over UDA’s growing presence in traditional ODM strongholds.
The process also revives internal discussions around possible political zoning arrangements, with some party leaders reportedly advocating for strategic agreements to safeguard ODM’s influence in Nyanza, Coast, and sections of Western Kenya.
The early rollout is widely seen as a move to energise grassroots mobilisation, manage internal rivalries, and strengthen the party’s footing as succession politics continue to shape the future of the movement under party leader Oburu Odinga.
