The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has announced a month-long programme of activities to commemorate the life and legacy of its late founder, Raila Odinga.
The party made the announcement on Thursday, September 10, unveiling a programme dubbed “Mwezi wa Baba”, which will run throughout October to mark one year since the former Prime Minister’s death.
ODM said the month-long tribute will feature several activities, including a nationwide candle-lighting ceremony, memorial rallies and family-led events.
As part of the programme, Kenyans have been invited to light candles across the country on October 2 at 6pm in remembrance of Raila.
The party will then hold a major memorial rally in Kakamega Town on October 9, bringing together Raila’s supporters from across Western Kenya.
Between October 10 and 15, the Odinga family is expected to lead a series of commemorative activities, culminating in a memorial service at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi.

ODM will also hold another memorial rally in Garissa Town, targeting supporters from Northern Kenya, including Wajir, Garissa, Mandera, Isiolo and Marsabit counties.
Further commemorative events are scheduled for Kajiado and Turkana counties on October 21 and October 23 respectively.
The month-long programme will conclude with a final memorial rally in Nairobi County.
ODM called on its supporters to use the commemorations to renew their commitment to Raila’s ideals and his contribution to Kenya’s democracy and Pan-Africanism.
Raila died on October 15, 2025, while undergoing treatment at Devamatha Hospital in Kerala, India.
According to his long-serving bodyguard, Maurice Ogeta, Raila suffered a heart attack during a morning walk with him around the hospital facility shortly before his death.
