The Migori High Court has rejected bail applications for three police officers accused of engaging in the torture and genital assault of a man detained at Homa Bay Police Station on May 24, 2022.
The officers in question, namely Peter Langat, Peter Nyakundi, and Gilbert Aloka, serving in Nakuru and Homa Bay counties, are alleged to have intentionally and unlawfully restrained Edward Ondiek Amayo.
The accusations include suspending Amayo’s body between two tables, using canes on him, and causing harm to his genitals with pliers.
During their appearance before Senior Principal Magistrate Naomi Wairimu, all three officers vehemently denied the charges.

Despite the officers’ pleas for bail being rejected by the State counsel on Wednesday, the court set February 9, 20204, as the date for the hearing to determine bond terms.
The State prosecutor expressed concerns about witness interference, pointing out that the suspects were allegedly collaborating with some of their colleagues who are expected to testify in the case.
To counter these issues, the prosecution has enlisted a total of 13 witnesses, which includes Amayo himself and six other law enforcement officers, to provide testimony during the proceedings.
The court will reconvene on February 9, 20204, to address the bond terms and further examine the case.
