Pastor Ezekiel Odero of the New Life Prayer Centre and Church can breathe a sigh of relief as a court in Shanzu, Mombasa, has closed his investigation file.
The court’s decision comes in the wake of prosecutors’ failure to bring charges against the embattled pastor.
The state had previously associated the televangelist with Kilifi sect leader Paul Mackenize, alleging a shared history of business investments, notably involving a TV station that had been utilized for disseminating radicalized messages to their respective followers.
These developments follow a recent visit by the Senate committee tasked with investigating the Shakahola deaths to the New Life premises.
The ongoing investigations have led to the exhumation of over 420 bodies from the Shakahola Forest, uncovering a grim chapter in the region’s history.

In response to the court’s decision, Pastor Ezekiel expressed gratitude, attributing the victory to the church. He adamantly stated that neither he nor the church had committed any wrongdoing.
“We did nothing wrong and the church did nothing wrong,” he said.
Notably, the pastor conveyed his intention not to pursue any defamation or compensation cases in the aftermath of this legal battle.
