Police are investigating an incident in which a pedestrian was shot and injured during an operation to arrest a suspect in Nairobi downtown.

Police had gone to Munyu Road in downtown to arrest a suspect wanted for robbery and obtaining with false pretenses when a scuffle broke out.

The suspect reportedly incited a mob to attack the team prompting them to shoot to the air in a bid to escape their wrath.

It was then Manase Kuria was hit in the left hand and pelvis as he walked outside Toba Building.

Police said he was rushed to hospital and admitted in stable condition.

The suspect managed to escape in the drama as a mob became rowdy and started to stone the officers.

Police say they are investigating the incident.

A team that visited the scene said they did not recover any spent cartridges that will enhance the probe into the shooting.
