Police Detain Six Suspects, Seize Security Radios And Pistols

Detectives arrested six suspects and seized police communication radios and two pistols in Ruaka, Kiambu County, following a failed robbery attempt yesterday.

The suspects were trying to break into a house around 11 a.m. when an alarm was triggered, prompting an immediate police response.

Kiambaa Sub-county Police Commander Pius Mwanthi explained, “The gang went to the house at 11 a.m.

To their shock, they learned the owners were in and ran downstairs as an alarm was raised.”

Mwanthi noted that the suspects initially believed the house was empty.

Once they realized the occupants were inside, they attempted to escape by boarding a matatu heading to Nairobi.

However, the matatu was intercepted a short distance away by police who had been alerted and had circulated the details of the suspects.

In addition to recovering the firearms and radios, police also found various tools believed to be used by the gang for breaking into homes and other properties.

Mwanthi highlighted a recent rise in break-ins across Kiambu and surrounding areas, stating, “Security operations have been enhanced to contain the crime.”

The suspects’ homes are expected to be searched as part of the ongoing investigation to uncover further evidence.

Separately, a joint operation by detectives from the Transnational Organized Crime Unit and the Anti-Narcotics Unit led to the arrest of a notorious drug trafficker, Abdalla Abdi Wambugu, in Kwa Njoroge Estate, Kawangware, Dagoretti North.

Wambugu was apprehended with assorted narcotics valued at Sh646,480.

The DCI reported, “Detectives drawn from the Transnational Organized Crime Unit and the Anti-Narcotics Unit over the weekend apprehended the infamous drug trafficker Abdalla Abdi Wambugu, recovering narcotics with a street value of Sh646,480.”

These arrests demonstrate ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address both violent crime and drug trafficking, underscoring their commitment to improving public safety in the region.
