23-year-old Seth Nyakio Njeri has highlighted the disturbing trend of increasing violence against women in the country.
Seth was discovered dead on Monday in a rented apartment located in Biafra, Thika, Kiambu County.
Her mother, Lucy Njeri, described Seth as a vibrant and lively individual who had left their family home in Kamakis just the day before.
They had been in touch until Sunday, but when her daughter’s calls and messages went unanswered, Lucy became increasingly worried.
Despite their frantic search efforts, there was no trace of Seth until a friend made the heart-wrenching phone call on Monday morning, informing the family of her tragic fate.
Upon the arrival of the police, they found Seth’s body, which had been left unclothed.
“I saw visible injuries around her neck; it was a horrific sight,” Lucy recounted during an interview.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Seth had been strangled, with indications of sexual assault as well.
Law enforcement officials are now focusing on a male acquaintance who may have harbored anger after their recent breakup.
It is believed that he discovered Seth’s whereabouts, lured her to the location, and then took her life.
However, Seth’s family is not convinced by this narrative, asserting that the friend she was visiting likely holds essential information regarding the circumstances surrounding her death.
In light of this, detectives have been gathering statements from the female friend who was with Seth during her last moments.
The investigation continues as the community mourns this tragic loss and grapples with the rising issue of violence against women.
