Multi-agency teams are actively searching for individuals linked to bomb-making materials that were discovered in a guesthouse in Garissa Town.
Authorities reported that these materials were intended for the construction of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) for an undisclosed target.
The raid took place on the night of September 22 at Elson Guest House, where a white sack was found concealed under a bed in one of the rooms. A thorough inspection revealed that the sack contained components for making an IED.
The items recovered included 16 batteries connected in series, grey plastic containment with residue, two wires (black and white) linked to a dual battery charger, a black GPS Hormud telecom SIM card, a Somtel SIM card, and three high-speed models.
No arrests were made at the time, but police have launched an investigation.
The management of the guesthouse has been questioned as part of the effort to identify those responsible for the dangerous materials, with suspicions that the owners may have fled to Somalia.
Authorities believe that the individuals behind these materials had plans to carry out an attack at a yet-to-be-disclosed location.
The materials were photographed and subsequently destroyed.
In light of recent threats, security agencies have ramped up operations aimed at preventing potential terror attacks across the country.
Additional operations are being conducted along the Kenya-Somalia border to mitigate fears of an impending terrorist attack.
This comes after a prolonged period of relative calm, with concerns that the Al-Shabaab group may be plotting new attacks.
The border area has frequently experienced violence from militants, often supported by local residents.
Somalia has struggled with instability since the fall of Siad Barre in 1991, allowing militants to cross the border easily and launch attacks before retreating.
Al-Shabaab has targeted regions like Mandera and Garissa, leading to casualties among civilians and security personnel.
Kenyan forces remain engaged in Somalia to combat the activities of the terror group.
