Policeman Arrested After Lobbing Teargas At Lodging Over Missing Girlfriend In Kisumu


A police officer was Monday, April 10 morning arrested and beaten up by a mob in Kisumu after he teargassed revelers in two separate joints while hunting for his missing girlfriend.

The police said the officer attached to Kasagam police station first had quarreled with managers and security guards at Oliza Hotel alleging that his girlfriend was in the lodging with another man.

The guards denied the claims and chased him out.

And as he left the place, he threw a teargas canister into the hotel and jumped onto a motorcycle fleeing, police and witnesses said.

According to police, a few minutes later he went to Black Pearl Lounge and Grill where he had another confrontation with the guards before he again lobbed a teargas canister into the club.

Many revelers who were presently scampered for safety as they choked with the fumes of the gas.

Fortunately, according to police, the club’s security personnel managed to apprehend the suspect as a mob joined in beating him up.

He was then found to be a serving police officer attached to Kasagam police station.

Police said they are yet to know the motive of the drama and investigations are ongoing.

He was taken to JOOTRH for treatment ahead of the planned grilling by his colleagues and action.
