In a setback for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) has declared the attempt to revoke the nomination of Kisumu County Assembly Member (MCA) Regina Kizito as unlawful.
Judge Willy Mutubwa, presiding over the PPDT, nullified ODM’s decision to suspend Ms. Kizito from the party, emphasizing the illegality of the process.
Additionally, he deemed the Kisumu County Assembly’s decision to suspend her from House sittings as both illegal and unconstitutional.
Expressing her satisfaction with the tribunal’s ruling, MCA Kizito, who represents the youth in the Assembly, stated that justice had finally prevailed.
She affirmed her commitment to continuing her efforts in championing youth-related issues within the House.
Kizito was one of four nominated MCAs who faced suspension from all Kisumu County Assembly functions following a directive from the ODM party, subsequent to the National Executive Council’s resolution to expel them.
The other affected individuals were Carolyne Opar, Kennedy Ajwang, and Peter Obaso.
