President William Ruto has appointed Joshua Kutuny, former Cherangany Member of Parliament as the new Chairperson of the Kenya Copyright Board.
The appointment of Kutuny is effective immediately, with a mandate extending over a three-year term.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the Copyright Act. 2001, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appointed— Joshua Kutuny to be the Chairperson of the Kenya Copyright Board, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 27th October, 2023,” a gazette notice dated October 27, 2023 read.

Kutuny previously served as the Cherangany Member of Parliament but was unsuccessful in his bid for re-election in the General Election held last year, losing to incumbent Cherangany MP Wesly Korir.
His political journey has been characterized by a series of ups and downs.
He initially secured his position in parliament to represent the Cherangany Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya in 2007.
However, his parliamentary tenure was cut short when he lost his seat in the 2013 Kenyan general election to Wesley Korir, the 2012 Boston Marathon winner.
Joshua Kutuny was then appointed as a political advisor by then-President of Kenya, Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, and held this post until December 2017.
At that time, he resigned from his advisory role and declared his candidacy for the Cherangany Constituency parliamentary seat. He managed to secure the seat by a narrow margin in the 2017 Kenyan general election.
Kutuny’s political journey continued as he was appointed as the acting Deputy Secretary-General of the ruling Jubilee Party early in 2021, following the ousting of Honorable Caleb Kositany, a staunch supporter of Deputy President Ruto.
This transition occurred after President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta distanced himself from his long-time ally, William Samoei Ruto, and aligned with Raila Amolo Odinga.
