President William Ruto held a significant meeting at State House, Nairobi, with National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General Noordin Haji.
The meeting also saw the participation of Ethiopia’s National Intelligence Security Service Director General, Redwan Hussein.
According to a tweet from the President on Saturday, the discussion focused on enhancing security not just within Kenya, but across the broader Horn of Africa region.
President Ruto emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in tackling security challenges such as terrorism and organized crime, which continue to threaten the stability of the East African region.
He assured that Kenya remains committed to collaborating with both regional and global partners to bolster security.
“Security challenges such as terrorism and organised crime require collaborative efforts among countries in the Horn of Africa.
Kenya undertakes to work with partners and countries around the globe to bring stability,” President Ruto tweeted.
“Discussed regional security with Ethiopia’s Director General of the National Intelligence Security Service Ambassador Redwan Hussien.”
The meeting came amid growing controversy surrounding Haji, who has been accused by Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi of being involved in the abduction of his son, Leslie Muturi, in June 2024.
In a statement issued on January 14, Muturi implicated Haji in the abduction, which occurred during a period of public unrest over the Finance Bill 2024.
According to Muturi, Leslie was forcibly taken by individuals believed to be police officers in Nairobi’s Kilimani area, and he suspects that Haji authorized the act.
Frustrated by what he described as the inaction of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, who reportedly contacted Haji but received no further support, Muturi escalated the matter to President Ruto.
Muturi has since demanded accountability for the abduction and further implicated Haji in a dossier submitted to Kilimani Police Station.
The timing of the meeting, just days after the accusations against Haji surfaced, highlights the growing tension surrounding the allegations and the scrutiny of the NIS leadership.
As investigations continue, questions surrounding the involvement of government agencies in abductions remain a focal point of national debate.
