The prime suspect in the shocking murders of three family members a mother, daughter, and their 12-year-old niece has been ordered to remain in custody for 21 days amid ongoing investigations.
Makadara Senior Principal Magistrate Mary Njagi issued this ruling on Monday, November 4.
Hashim Dagane Muhumed, the suspect, is to be held at Ruaraka Police Station until December 2, 2024, when he will be presented in court for further proceedings.
During the court session at the Makadara Law Courts, detectives successfully argued for Hashim’s detention extension, citing concerns that he poses a flight risk.
They revealed that he had already attempted to evade capture after the alleged crimes were committed.
Family members of the victims attended the hearing, where Hashim was escorted in under tight security.
Police discovered that Hashim shaved his beard in a deliberate bid to evade law enforcement.
At 34 years old, Hashim was apprehended in Eastleigh, Nairobi, after nearly two weeks of hiding from authorities.
During this period, investigators expanded their search to neighboring Somalia and Ethiopia.
On November 2, CCTV footage captured him leaving a building in Eastleigh, where he often solicited taxi passengers.
An extensive manhunt ensued, utilizing forensic evidence to track his movements.
Despite his attempts to mislead investigators with multiple phone numbers, he was ultimately cornered and surrendered as police closed in on his location.
Authorities also found several counterfeit documents on him, including a fake Kenyan ID.
Hashim is linked to the murders of Amina Abdirashid, her aunt Waris Dahabo Daud, and niece Nusayba Abdi Mohammed.
Police suspect he was familiar with the victims and had previously engaged in extortion activities within Nairobi.
A Nissan Note captured on CCTV was seen picking up the victims from their Eastleigh home on October 21, mere hours before their bodies were discovered scattered across various locations.
The subsequent autopsy revealed that Waris had been severely mutilated, Amina was killed by stab wounds, and Nusayba was smothered.
As investigations continue, authorities remain focused on uncovering additional insights into this tragic and disturbing case.
