Probe As Driver Is Found Dead In Lorry In Traffic Jam On Mai Mahiu-Nairobi Road

Police are investigating an incident where a driver was found dead in his cabin and in a traffic jam along the Mai Mahiu-Nairobi Highway in Mutarakwa area, Kiambu County.

The engine of the lorry that he was driving was running when he was found unresponsive Sunday dawn, police said.

The trailer was headed for Nairobi from an unknown place when the incident happened, police said as they identified the deceased as Patrick Tsuma Okuon, 55.

Other road users were concerned with the stalling of the trailer on the Mutarakwa-Mai Mahiu stretch and went to check on the driver when they found him unresponsive.

He had engaged a neutral gear and left the engine running before he died.

The road users informed police of the incident who arrived there and confirmed the man had died on the steering wheel.

Police said they found some medications at the driver’s cabin and suspected it to be an indicator that the driver was ailing from some health condition.

The body was removed to the mortuary pending an autopsy while the lorry was taken to the local police station, police said. It is not clear what the lorry was ferrying. The driver was alone at the time of the incident.

Meanwhile, officials are investigating an incident where a member of the National Police Reserve shot and seriously injured his daughter in an accident in Doldol, Laikipia County.

The four-year-old daughter sustained serious injuries in the hand and right rib cage and was rushed to the hospital in a stable condition, police said of the Sunday morning incident.
