The family of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has established a committee to oversee preparations for activities marking the first anniversary of his death.
In a statement issued on Sunday, September 13, the family said the committee would be chaired by Professor Adams Oloo and tasked with coordinating commemorative events planned for the week of October 15.
The committee is currently working on a programme of activities, which the family said would be released at a later date.
“The family has constituted a committee chaired by Prof. Adams Oloo to coordinate commemorative activities during the week of the 15th,” the statement said.
The family noted that many Kenyans did not have an opportunity to mourn Raila or bid him farewell in the manner they had wished following his death in October 2025.
It said the first anniversary would therefore provide an opportunity for his supporters and other Kenyans to remember, mourn and celebrate his life and legacy.

“We therefore want this first anniversary to give the people their moment with Baba to remember him, mourn him, celebrate him and honour the journey they shared with him,” the family said.
The family also asked individuals and groups intending to organise, support or participate in anniversary activities to coordinate through the committee.
It said the arrangement would promote proper coordination, inclusivity and a unified commemoration, assuring Raila’s supporters that they would be included in the events.
The announcement comes days after the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) unveiled plans to dedicate the entire month of October to commemorating Raila’s life.
The party, on September 10, announced a programme dubbed Mwezi wa Baba, featuring candle-lighting ceremonies, rallies and family activities.
Kenyans are expected to participate in a nationwide candle-lighting ceremony on October 2 at 6pm in memory of the former premier.
