Riokindo Boys High School Student Drowns In Nyakwana River, Kisii County

A Form Three student at Riokindo Boys High School is feared drowned in Nyakwana River in Kisii Central Sub-County after he and three schoolmates went swimming.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening at Nyakwana Village in Matunwa Location after the four students had been sent home over school fees.

Police said the student and his three colleagues were sent home from school on September 1 but did not proceed to their respective homes.

Instead, they went to one of the students’ home.

At about 6pm on Wednesday, the four boys reportedly went to bathe in Nyakwana River.

The victim then started swimming towards a deeper section of the river but failed to return.

An alarm was raised, prompting local divers to begin a search and rescue operation. The search was still ongoing when police officers visited the scene.

The Kisii County Disaster Management Team was also contacted to assist with the search and recovery operation.

Meanwhile, a 75-year-old man was found dead at Ngata Centre in Rongai Sub-County, Nakuru County, on Thursday morning.

The deceased was identified as Joseph Kinyori Arap Chepkwony.

Police said there were no visible physical injuries on the body.

The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to the Nakuru County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it was preserved pending an autopsy to establish the cause of death.
