The deputy commander of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Abdel Rahim Hamdan Daglo, has announced that his group will keep moving forward to take control of the remaining states in the country from the army.
This statement follows the recent successes of RSF in the troubled western region of Darfur, where they managed to capture some states and army bases. Darfur is a strong area for the RSF.
Mr. Daglo expressed his determination, saying, “We will move towards other remaining states and [army] headquarters, and they will be under our control, God willing.”
He made this statement while addressing enthusiastic RSF fighters in the Central Darfur state capital of Zalingei.
Meanwhile, the military has played down the RSF’s recent progress in Darfur.
Both sides are currently engaged in peace talks in the Saudi port city of Jeddah, aiming to put an end to the conflict that began in mid-April.
