President William Ruto on Friday, August 28, unveiled new uniforms for General Duty police officers during a ceremony at the Kiganjo Police Training College in Nyeri County.
The new uniform features sky-blue shirts, dark-blue trousers and berets, with the National Police Service (NPS) also introducing dresses for female officers.
The changes come days after Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja confirmed that the new uniforms would be launched at Kiganjo. He said the decision followed a public participation exercise in which officers rejected the navy-blue uniforms currently in use.
Kanja said the police leadership would also adopt the new design, with the Inspector General expected to start wearing it from Monday.

The rollout to General Duty officers is expected to take place over the coming weeks. According to Kanja, the change is intended to boost officers’ morale and improve their effectiveness in carrying out their duties.
However, the new uniforms will not apply to officers serving under the General Service Unit (GSU) and the Administration Police Service (APS).
Ruto’s unveiling of the uniforms coincided with his presiding over the pass-out parade of 6,000 newly trained police constables at Kiganjo.
The officers were recruited during a nationwide exercise conducted on November 17, 2025, and have since completed their training. They are expected to be deployed to police stations and various NPS units following the graduation ceremony.
