President William Ruto has clarified that while the Kenya Kwanza Alliance and the Orange Democratic Movement have not formed a formal coalition, both parties have committed to working together to address Kenya’s challenges.
He emphasized that this collaboration is driven solely by the need to serve the Kenyan people, rather than personal or party interests.
During his visit to Nyamira and Kisii counties on the first day of a three-day tour to inspect development projects, President Ruto stressed that his primary goal is to unify the nation.
He was joined by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Governors Simba Arati (Kisii) and Amos Nyaribo (Nyamira), Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, as well as several MPs and MCAs.
The President praised the ODM for agreeing to collaborate with the government to advance Kenya’s development agenda.
He also urged all branches of government Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary to work together for the benefit of the country.
However, the visit was marred by political disagreements among local MPs, particularly over the location of a proposed university in Nyamira County.
The dispute intensified during President Ruto’s speech, with local MP Joash Nyamoko clashing with his colleagues Clive Gisairo (Kitutu Masaba) and Steve Mogaka (West Mugirango).
Nyamoko accused them of undermining the plans to build the university at Kiabonyoru High School in North Mugirango constituency.
Public sentiment also became heated, with residents demanding that President Ruto officially designate Kiabonyoru as the university’s site.
Despite the President’s assurances that a consensus would be reached among local leaders, the crowd insisted that a feasibility study by the Commission of Higher Education had already confirmed Kiabonyoru as the optimal location.
In his address, Nyamoko argued that Kiabonyoru deserved the university due to the proper procedures followed, and he urged President Ruto to declare the site at Kiabonyoru.
“Mr. President, I am the only UDA elected MP in this area, and my colleagues are attempting to shift the project to their constituencies.
The only fair action is to affirm Kiabonyoru as the site,” Nyamoko told the President directly.
