SHA Extends Deadline for Hospitals to Secure New Contracts

The Social Health Authority (SHA) has extended the deadline for healthcare providers to complete the contracting process for the 2026-2029 cycle by 14 days.

In a notice issued on Wednesday, October 1, SHA Chief Executive Officer Dr Mercy Mwangangi said healthcare facilities will now have until October 14, 2026, to finalise the process.

Mwangangi said facilities would continue serving SHA beneficiaries under their existing contracts during the extension period. The contracts, which expired on September 30, will officially lapse once the 14-day extension ends, with SHA indicating that no further extension will be granted.

Healthcare providers will receive revised contracts covering the additional 14 days through the e-contracting platform. They are required to accept, sign and return the agreements within three days to maintain uninterrupted services.

Only facilities that accept the extension will continue providing services to SHA beneficiaries during the additional 14-day period.

Facilities that decline the extension have been instructed to coordinate with their SHA county managers to transfer patients receiving ongoing treatment to other contracted providers.

To assist healthcare providers, SHA will hold HAKIKA contracting clinics across all counties from Monday, October 5. The clinics will be hosted at SHA County Offices, with details on schedules and requirements to be published on the authority’s website.

SHA has urged facilities that already have the necessary documentation to complete the contracting process promptly rather than wait until the deadline.

The authority said 10,006 healthcare providers had so far expressed interest in the new contracting cycle and were at various stages of the process.
