According to Indian officials, the suspect was arrested at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport during a routine check.
The suspect was nabbed with approximately three kilograms of heroin valued at Sh343 million (Rs 21 Crores).
In Kenya, the value of narcotics is Sh5 million.
“On basis of spot profiling, Air Customs at IGIA, Delhi arrested an Indian national arriving from Nairobi and recovered approximately 3 kg of heroin valued at Rs 21 crores,” the Customs Department stated.
“The heroin was concealed in the false bottom of his bag,” read part of the statement from the Customs Department.
Police seized the heroin as evidence while the suspect was placed in custody as investigations began.
The smuggling of drugs via Africa is on the rise.
A Delhi Police team also busted an international narcotic drug cartel last month with the arrest of three Africans.
The police recovered 14.5 kg of narcotic drugs valued at over Rs 60 crore from them.
In February, an airline attendant from Kenya was arrested at the Mumbai airport with 22.94 kilograms of heroin.
The drugs were in a passenger’s luggage connecting flights from Zimbabwe, and their luggage was not checked at the airport.
A Kenyan woman was last week arrested in Ghana for being in possession of Sh41 million of cocaine from Kenya.
She was apprehended at the Kotoka International Airport attempting to smuggle the drug.
