Police in Siaya County took action on Tuesday, detaining two women as part of their efforts to combat illicit brews, drugs, and contraband items in Sirima village, Ugenya sub-county.
In a raid conducted by officers from Ukwala Police Station, a stash of 60 liters of kangara was discovered at the residence of 50-year-old Pamela Atieno in Sirima village.
Following a tip-off, law enforcement proceeded to the home of 24-year-old Beryl Atieno, seizing 17 liters of chang’aa, 16 rolls of bhang, 100 liters of kangara, and 16 sticks of illicit cigarettes.

Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo confirmed the arrests, stating that the two women are currently held at Ukwala Police Station, awaiting court proceedings after the government chemist analyzes the confiscated items.
Kimaiyo emphasized the ongoing crackdown on illegal liquor and warned that law enforcement efforts will persist until the region is free from such unlawful activities.
Seizing the opportunity, Mr. Kimaiyo urged the public to seek alternative means of income, highlighting that involvement in criminal activities does not lead to prosperity.
