Ocean View Community Policing Forum chairperson Mansoer Ismail told News24 the suspects were not from the area.
“The community has noticed unfamiliar faces in the area over the last few days, and they were hiding away. These are gangsters who are not from here,” he claimed.
Officers and crime experts were combing Neptune Lane for clues to track down the gunmen who killed six people on Wednesday morning.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said reports from the scene indicated a vehicle pulled up in front of a house on Neptune Lane at approximately 10:50.
“The occupants of the vehicle went inside the house and started shooting at individuals inside the premises.
“Five men between the ages of 20 and 50 were, as a result, killed while a sixth person who was transported to a medical facility after sustaining gunshot wounds was confirmed as having died upon arrival in hospital,” she added.
Potelwa said detectives from the provincial Anti-Gang Unit were investigating six counts of murder.
The motive for the shooting is suspected to be gang-related, with no arrests being made yet.
Western Cape Police Oversight and Community Safety MEC Reagen Allen said he was deeply upset about the deadly shooting.
“As investigations are unfolding, I urge anyone with information to immediately share it with the SAPS so that the perpetrators can be arrested.
“Clearly, these are heartless criminals who do not deserve to be among us and should be behind bars.
“As a society, let us assist all law enforcement agencies in combating crime, particularly murder.
“We cannot have any of our communities experiencing a mass shooting or a horrific crime such as this, nor should they be living in fear about ruthless criminals potentially entering their homes and committing similar offenses,” he added.
