Student, 15 Electrocuted By Water Pump In Ruiru


Police are investigating an incident in which a 15-year-old student was electrocuted in an incident in Ruiru, Kiambu County.

The team handling the incident said it happened on September 15 near a river in the area.

A resident said he had connected power supply to his neighbor to pump water for irrigation from river Mukuyu to his land.

The resident told police he was called by a person who informed him to connect the power so that they could pump the water and he connected the power.

He said he went to feed his goats but after a short while, he heard a scream from the riverside whereby he rushed and switched off the power supply.

On checking, he found a form one student at Ruiru Boys High School aged 15 lying on his back with legs inside the river next to the water pump having been electrocuted.

He was rushed to Ruiru sub-county hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police officers and Kenya Power visited the scene and moved the body to Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral pending autopsy and other investigations.

Officials blame such deaths on illegal power connections.

Meanwhile, police in Kabete, Nairobi are investigating the recovery of human body parts from a private farm in the area.

The recovery was made on September 17 at Kagondo farm.

Police said they recovered a suspected human palm with three fingers and some flesh.

The scene was processed and documented and body was taken to City morgue.

And in Mwatate, Taita Taveta, one Hezron Mcharo Mdamu, 78 was found dead in his house in an incident.

A relative said he had gone outside the house for a call of nature and when returned, he found the man lying unconscious.

Police visited the scene where the body was found lying with no visible injuries in his house.

The body was moved to Moi County Teaching and Referral Hospital for preservation awaiting autopsy.
