A suspect in the murder of LGBTQ activist Edwin Kiprotich Kiptoo alias Chiloba Wednesday denied murder charges against him.
Jacktone Odhiambo appeared before High Court Judge Richard Nyakundi and denied that he murdered Chiloba between December 31 2022 and January 3, 2023.
He allegedly committed the offense at the noble Breeze apartment Chebisas area in Moiben sub-county Uasin Gishu.
“I did not murder,” he shouted when asked by the judge what his answer was.
The judge had also asked the suspect if he was aware of why he was in court.
“I am here because I am a suspect in the murder of Edwin Chiloba,” Odhiambo said.
Odhiambo was represented by lawyer Mathai Maina who informed the court that he would apply for bond for the accused.
The prosecution informed the court that the suspect would be supplied with committal bundles for the offense.
The prosecution added they were yet to get a toxicology report, call data records geo mapping report, inventory of recovered items, and Mpesa statement which is part of the evidence to be supplied to the suspect.
Mathai said they want some of the personal effects of the accused to be returned to him.
He said bank account credit cards and ATM cards should be given back to him because they had not been listed as part of the evidence to be tabled in court.
The prosecution said the materials would be used as evidence in court and cannot be returned to the suspect.
Lawyer Mitullah Gilbert for the family of Chiloba said they would also file documents opposing bail for the suspect.
Justice Nyakundi allowed the family to file the documents on the bail application.
The judge directed that the case be mentioned on January 16, 2023, for consideration of the supply of all documents to the parties in the matter.
