A suspected thug was Friday night shot deed after a confrontation with detectives who were on patrol in Kasarani, Nairobi.

Police said the deceased had an accomplice who was escaping after stealing from a man in Githurai 44.

The two armed thugs were captured on CCTV attacking a man who was alighting from his car to open the gate.

In a videotape from the apartment’s CCTV, the thug was captured as he leaped with long strides and in haste after the man while ordering him to empty all his pockets as he pointed the firearm at him.

After ransacking his pockets, a getaway motorbike screeched to a halt one yard from the scene and the miscreant hopped on it as it sped away, in what appeared to be a well-calculated plan, police said.

The sleuths who were on patrol at Kasarani were alerted by the screams from a man in Subaru who was after them.

On their way to find out towards Makoe Road, they spotted the motorbike which was carrying the two thugs.

“And as the officers closed in on the bike, the armed thug suddenly disembarked and started running on foot towards a footpath while shooting towards the officers. Left with no other option, one of the crime busters opened fire and silenced him, bringing the chase to an end.”

The other thug managed to escape.

One Czeska pistol loaded with four rounds of 9mm caliber was recovered during the incident.

The thug’s body is lying at the City morgue pending identification.
