Police authorities in Bungoma have intercepted a truck carrying 120 bags of top-dressing fertilizer suspected to be counterfeit.
According to Bungoma OCPD Wilson Muraya, they were alerted to a situation where a fertilizer shipment was being repackaged at a local fuel station.
Acting on this information, law enforcement intercepted the lorry en route to distribute the fertilizer to farmers across various sub-counties.

Muraya noted that the bags bore the branding of the County Government of Bungoma.
He stated, “We have impounded it so that officials from the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) can examine it to determine its authenticity and suitability for use.”
Speaking on the matter, Bungoma Senator David Wakoli encouraged affected farmers to provide documentation regarding the acquired fertilizer for further investigation.
He mentioned, “The County Executive Committee member for Finance informed me that they were not informed of any fertilizer consignment scheduled for delivery on Saturday but acknowledged receiving complaints from farmers who received damp fertilizer.”
The authorities are now awaiting the results of KEBS’ examination to ascertain the legitimacy of the seized fertilizer.
