Another patient died suspiciously while being treated at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), according to reports.
This comes after a similar strange event in which a patient was discovered dead inside a ward at Kenyatta National Hospital.
The patient admitted to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital has cancer. He was admitted to the facility on December 15, 2024.
After a few days in the hospital, the patient inexplicably disappeared.
On January 29, police indicated that on Tuesday, February 11, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital management notified Naiberi Police Station that the patient had gone missing from the ward.
Following the report, authorities conducted a search for the missing patient.
The search lasted two weeks, and on Sunday, February 9, the patient’s decomposing body was discovered on the banks of the River Sosiani, just 200 meters from the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.
According to investigators, the deceased was located wearing civilian clothing and had been attacked by dogs.
“Homicide detectives from the Central Police Station in Eldoret visited the scene and retrieved the decomposed body on the banks of the River Sosiani, dressed in civilian clothes,” stated Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi.
Investigations are also underway to discover how the patient disappeared from Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Mwanthi indicated that a post-mortem examination could reveal whether the patient committed suicide.
“The guards on duty must be held accountable for the security lapse surrounding this mysterious death,” the county police chief stated.
