Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s husband, Hafidh Ameir Hassan, has died while undergoing treatment for a heart-related illness.
The death was announced on Monday, September 7, by Tanzania’s Deputy President Deogratius Ndejembi during a national address.
Ndejembi said Hafidh died at around 8:00am while receiving medical care.
“With deep sorrow, I inform you of the passing of Hafidh Ameir Hassan, husband of the President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, which occurred this morning at around 8:00am,” Ndejembi announced.
He conveyed the government’s condolences to President Samia, the bereaved family, relatives, friends and Tanzanians following the death.
The Deputy President added that funeral arrangements were underway in Zanzibar.
Hafidh’s death comes as Tanzania has recently witnessed the loss of several prominent figures and family members of political leaders.
Last month, Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah announced the death of his sister, Mwalimu Mary Goretti Wamukoya, who passed away on August 21 following a prolonged illness.
In a statement issued on August 31, Omtatah described his late sister as a woman known for her strength, kindness, wisdom and commitment to her family.

He also sent condolences to the Musita and Okoiti families, praying for strength and comfort as they mourned her death.
Earlier, Garissa Governor Nathif Jama lost his elder brother, Prof. Bashir Jama Adan, an accomplished agricultural development expert and research scientist.
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale mourned Bashir in a statement issued on July 31, describing him as an internationally recognised expert whose career spanned more than three decades.
Duale said Bashir held senior positions at international organisations, where he worked on soil health, sustainable agriculture and food security initiatives across Africa.
He served in leadership roles at the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF), the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).
According to Duale, Bashir combined scientific expertise with a strong focus on developing practical solutions for farmers, earning international recognition for his contribution to agricultural innovation and food security.
