Detectives in Khwisero Sub-County, Kakamega County, launched investigations into the suspected murder of an unidentified teenage girl whose body was found floating in River Esava.
The gruesome discovery was made on Tuesday in Eshitimba Village, Khushiku Sub-location, Mulwanda Location, after members of the public spotted what appeared to be a human body in the river and alerted police.
Investigators established that the victim was an unidentified female juvenile believed to be about 16 years old.
Her body had been wrapped in a mosquito net, with both her hands and legs tied.
Police also observed visible stab wounds on the neck and below the left arm, pointing to a violent death.
Crime scene investigators photographed and documented the scene before the body was moved to Butere Level IV Hospital Mortuary, where it will await identification and a post-mortem examination.
Detectives have opened a murder investigation to establish the girl’s identity, trace those responsible for the killing, and determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
Elsewhere, police are investigating the death of an unidentified man whose body was found floating in the Ngong River in Nairobi’s Kayole area.
The incident was reported in the Mathioya Totobora section of the river, prompting officers from Soweto Police Station, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kayole, and crime scene investigators to visit the scene.
Police recovered the body of an African man believed to be about 30 years old from the riverbank.
According to investigators, no identification documents were found on the deceased, and there were no visible external injuries.
However, the body had already begun decomposing and was
emitting a foul smell, suggesting it had been in the water for some time.
After the scene was processed and documented, the body was moved to the Nairobi City Mortuary, where it will await identification and a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.
Detectives from DCI Kayole have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
