Three individuals suspected of cattle theft met a grim fate at Okanda village in Bondo when an enraged mob took matters into their own hands on Monday night.
The operation, fueled by mounting incidents of livestock theft in the area, targeted three suspects, including a butcher.
Assistant Chief Dennis Ojwang’ recounted how the mob’s actions stemmed from a recent incident on Monday where several animals were stolen from the region.
The suspects were flushed out of their hiding places and subsequently lynched, with three of them, identified as David Haya (a butcher), Paul Otieno Wauda, and Walori Oyato, losing their lives. Several others sustained injuries during the altercation.
Confirming the incident, the local administrator revealed that the injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at Bondo sub-county hospital, while the deceased have been transferred to the facility’s mortuary.
Expressing concern over the prevalence of vigilantism, the administrator urged the public to refrain from taking justice into their own hands and emphasized the importance of handing suspects over to law enforcement authorities instead of resorting to lynching.
