In a recent operation in the Burburis area of Garissa County, police have apprehended two primary suspects and an accomplice linked to a series of violent robberies in the region.
The suspects, Ali Isaac Muhumed and Muhumed Bare Hussein, were discovered at their hideout alongside Habiba Yusuf, who is accused of harboring them.
Authorities believe this group is connected to at least six robbery incidents that occurred in September.
During the intelligence-led raid, police recovered an AK47 rifle, six rounds of ammunition, 12 mobile phones, two knives, a cash safe, and a vehicle, among other items.
The scene also revealed scattered mattresses, bags, and water jerricans throughout the disorganized residence.
Garissa OCPD Samuel Boit commented on the operation, stating, “We received intelligence information that guided our team to this location, allowing us to apprehend the suspects and the woman who hosted them.
The investigation is ongoing.”
Police reports indicate that the suspects were involved in six robbery cases over the past three weeks, during which two M-Pesa operators lost over sh. 1.5 million.
Garissa Deputy County Commissioner Thomas Bett remarked, “We have information suggesting this is a larger group, and we want to warn others involved that we are closing in on them.”
Boit reassured the public, saying, “We are enhancing our intelligence gathering and want the people of Garissa to feel secure, knowing that safety measures have been strengthened.”
The three individuals are currently held at Garissa Police Station and are expected to appear in court on Monday.
Security officials in the area remain committed to eradicating criminal activity and restoring safety.
