
Three people among them two police officers and a Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) official are missing after a boat capsized in Lake Victoria around midnight Friday, March 24.
The three include Sergeant Anderson Wendot, Constable Onesmus Githinji and KRA staff member Joseph Jillo who was captaining the boat when the incident occurred.
Police said the three were part of a platoon of eight officers drawn from the National Police Service, Marine Police, Administration Police (AP), and KRA who were conducting a joint operation around the lake when the boat capsized about 200 meters from Mugabo Beach at around midnight.
Police said three AK47 rifles, each loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition, which were in the possession of Mohammed, Wendot, and Omollo are yet to be recovered.
Efforts to locate the missing officers are ongoing.
The area is rampant with such incidents.
