Thugs Attack And Rob Chinese Road Contractors, Motorists In Murang’a


Police are looking for a gang that attacked and robbed workers at a construction site in Makuyu, Murangá County.

The gang had erected an illegal roadblock and was busy robbing motorists on Wednesday May 17 morning.

They attacked workers at the JXTE Construction Company in the area and robbed them of cash and electronic goods.

Police said the gang had barricaded the Kenol-Sagana highway at Kwa Mithike are where they also attacked and robbed several motorists.

A Chinese national Keen Kang who was in charge of security at the farm said the thugs were armed with crude weapons at the time of the attack.

Six of the victims were injured in the attack. The gang also damaged vehicles whose drivers defied orders to stop and surrender.

This was before police arrived at the scene.

Witnesses said the said thugs were picked by two cars and escaped from the scene with the loot.

The victims later recorded statements at the Makuyu police station.

No arrest has been made so far and police said a hunt on the gang is ongoing.

Such incidents have been on the rise in the area amid calls for enhanced patrols to address the trend.

Elsewhere in Taru, Kwale County, two men, one armed with a knife and the other an AK47 rifle attacked and robbed an Mpesa attendant of Sh400,000, mobile phones, a wrist watch and several recharge vouchers.

Police said the gang fired one round to the air as they fled the scene using a get away motorcycle.

Police who visited the scene said they recovered a spent cartridge of 7.62*39 mm amid a probe.

In Kisumu’s Migosi area, one Wyndham Ongere aged 28 years was attacked by five thugs at his rented house within the

Carwash area and injured in the neck before he was robbed of a 43 inch TV set, home theatre, HP laptop and hand bag.

The gang escaped the scene after the attack on Wednesday morning.
