A three-year-old boy died after falling from the balcony of the fifth floor of an apartment in Huruma, Nairobi.
The boy was playing with his friends on the balcony of the building when he slid and fell off on Monday March 3 evening in the tragedy, police and his family said.
He fell headfirst and died on the spot, police said.
His mother told police she was in the house as the boy and his friends played outside when she heard screams.
She ran out and found the boy missing and on reaching the ground floor she found the body of the minor sprawled with blood oozing from the ears and nose.
She was devastated as she sought help to save the boy.
The neighbours picked up the bleeding boy to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
Police said they are investigating the tragedy. A team visited the scene as part of the probe into the death.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.
Nairobi police boss George Sedah said they are investigating the incident.
Such accidents are common in the informal settlements amid calls on developers to ensure they install grills to mitigate them.
Greedy developers overlook safety measures, which exposes many to the dangers.
Officials say some developers use weak steel in their work, which also exposes the users to more dangers.
Meanwhile, police are investigating an incident where a man was found dead on the roadside in Embakasi, Nairobi.
The deceased was identified as Peter Muiruri Wambua 33.
Police said he had no visible injuries at the time the body was discovered by pedestrians.
Police moved the body to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.
