A seven-story building under construction in Rongo town, Migori County, has tragically collapsed, prompting a swift response from emergency services.
The incident occurred earlier today, and rescue operations are currently underway.

Migori County Secretary Oscar Olima confirmed that excavators, ambulances, and first responders are at the scene, working tirelessly to locate and rescue any survivors.
“We have excavators at the scene, ambulances on-site, and first responders are actively assisting,” Olima stated.
One person, a woman, has already been rescued from the debris and rushed to the hospital.
However, authorities are still working to determine how many others may be trapped beneath the collapsed structure.
Olima added, “We know there were workers at the site, but at this moment, we cannot confirm how many people are still trapped.”
Rongo Subcounty Police Commander Salim Fundi is also at the scene overseeing the operations and has assured the public that updates will be provided as the rescue efforts continue.
He emphasized that the priority is to save lives and assess the full extent of the damage.
