Detectives arrested two men who have been pulling off an online con by posing as stunning females offering professional massage, only to massage away their clients’ valuables instead in Nairobi’s Kasarani area.
The suspects, Alex Mugo Wachira and Simon Chomba Mbogo, have been luring unsuspecting clients by advertising “professional massage services” online.
But instead of a relaxing massage, victims are met with a not-so-soothing surprise.
One such victim, perhaps dreaming of scented oils and spa music, reported the ordeal to the Kasarani Police Station. Enticed by what seemed to be two attractive women offering top-tier massage sessions, he made his way to their supposed spa residence along Lumumba Drive, Kasarani.
However, moments into the “massage,” things took a sharp turn.
The two whipped out knives, revealing their true identities and zero massage knowledge.
Under duress, the victim was forced to transfer Sh280,000 to the suspects’ phone number, robbed of his valuables before being unceremoniously thrown out.
Police said investigations were initiated, and through forensic leads, the two were arrested while having a good time at a chilling spot in Kamiti prison area, probably using the stolen cash.
The duo were detained in custody pending arraignment.
Meanwhile, a 29-year-old man was sentenced to 20 years in prison after he was found guilty of defiling a fourteen-year-old girl in Loitip Village, Kiserian Location, Baringo County.
In a ruling made at the Kabarnet Law Courts, Prosecution, led by Counsel Collins Ogutu and Rebecca Bartilol, successfully proved the case against the accused beyond a reasonable doubt.
The prosecution narrated to court how on 9th of April 2024, at around 10:00 PM, the victim was at home with her younger siblings, who were asleep, when the defendant entered the premises.
He threatened her with a knife before committing the act.
In total, the prosecution paraded six witnesses, including the victim, along with crucial evidence and medical examination reports, all substantiating claims of defilement.
In delivering the sentence, Edwin Mulochi highlighted the violent nature of the crime and the minimum sentencing requirements under the law.
Further, he underscored the seriousness of the offense, the long-lasting impact on the victim, and the importance of imposing a strong deterrent to discourage similar crimes in the future.
