A Nairobi court has authorized the police to hold two men for seven days following their arrest with hand grenades outside businessman Jimi Wanjigi’s residence in Muthaiga.
The decision was made to allow further investigation into the incident.
The court deemed there was sufficient reason to detain the suspects while the investigation continues.
Defense lawyer Willis Otieno argued that the state’s claims that the explosives were found within Wanjigi’s property were inaccurate.
Otieno contended that the two men should be released, asserting that the real issue lies with the police, who he alleges planted the explosives.
During his submission, Otieno highlighted that CCTV footage reportedly showed individuals placing the explosives in both the car and Wanjigi’s home.
He criticized the situation, stating, “Let the giants fight their battles among themselves; we should not waste the court’s time involving innocent parties in matters they are not involved in.”
Otieno’s defense centered on the argument that the two men were being unjustly implicated in a larger conflict involving Wanjigi and the authorities.
The court’s decision to grant a detention period aims to clarify the situation and ensure a thorough investigation into the matter.
