Police are investigating two tragic separate incidents in which two minors drowned.
In the first incident, police said they are investigating claims a two-year-old child drowned in water that was in a basin outside their house in Dandora, Nairobi.
The mother of the child Tabitha Njeri told police she went to take a shower in her bathroom and left water in a basin outside her house.
Her daughter Margaret Muthoni aged two was playing outside the house at that time.
Margaret reportedly slid and fell into the basin with water drowning.
Njeri left the bathroom and later dressed up before she started to call her daughter with no response.
It was after she walked out of the house that she realized the daughter was unresponsive in the basin full of water.
Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said preliminary findings had shown the body was lying in the water that was in the basin.
Bungei termed the Wednesday morning incident tragedy and urged for caution by all concerned on children.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other procedures.
In Kinango, Kwale County, a two-year-old girl died after dropping into an unfinished open pit latrine.
Police said Hadija Ndegwa had walked to the latrine that was filled with rainwater and slid into it.
She drowned before she could be rescued. Her parents rushed and managed to remover her and took her to Kinango Sub County Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Police later visited the scene and documented it.
