Two Police Officers Arrested After Suspect Escapes From Custody In Narok

Two police officers were Thursday arrested after a suspect they were taking care of escaped from legal custody in Narok.

The officers were taking care of the suspect at the Narok Law courts when the incident happened.

Police said the suspect Charles Omandi Nyarabi, 29 had been charged with the offence of robbery with violence.

He had apparently asked to be taken to the court’s toilet when he escaped.

Two officers escorted him to the toilet that is near a river behind the courts, police said.

He was handcuffed and escorted to the toilet and suddenly came out and dashed into a deep seasonal river bank adjacent to the premises.

The officers raised alarm prompting a search in vain.

The suspect managed to escape.

Police say the two colleagues were detained for questioning as part of a probe into the incident.

Such incidents have been on the rise with some officials blaming collusion for the trend.
