Two suspects are in custody following the discovery of a loaded Czeska pistol hidden under stones in Kamukunji, Nairobi, on Sunday.
The weapon, which belongs to the Kenya Police, was found by a group of boys playing football nearby, who immediately notified authorities.
Officers from Railways Police Station arrived on the scene and verified that a pistol loaded with 10 rounds had been concealed there.
According to police, the boys had chased their ball near the site when they spotted the gun and sounded the alarm.
Two suspects were subsequently arrested, with police indicating they are assisting with investigations to determine how the pistol ended up there.
Nairobi Police Commander Adamson Bungei confirmed that inquiries are ongoing, noting that such firearms are often linked to violent crimes in the city.
Authorities have reported previous cases where pistols were used in robberies and assaults, and investigations into these incidents continue.
Meanwhile, police are probing two separate murder cases reported in Nyali, Mombasa.
In the first case, a 40-year-old man died following a brutal assault in the Sosiani area of Maweni on October 6. The victim was hospitalized but later succumbed to his injuries.
