Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has joined other leaders in conveying condolences to People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua following the death of her father, Mwalimu Jackson Karua.
In a statement issued on Monday, September 28, Uhuru described the late Mwalimu Karua as a man who was committed to education, principled leadership and strong family values.
Uhuru said the former teacher’s wisdom, values and guidance had left a lasting legacy that would continue through his children, grandchildren and the many people whose lives he influenced.
He extended his sympathies to Karua and her family, wishing them strength and comfort as they mourned their loss.
Mwalimu Karua died on Sunday, September 27, at his home in Kirinyaga County.

Martha Karua said she and her siblings had visited their father shortly before his death. During the visit, they spent time together and sang one of his favourite gospel hymns, unaware that it would be their final moments with him.
Karua said she learnt of her father’s death while travelling back to Nairobi.
President William Ruto also sent his condolences to the Karua family, describing Mwalimu Karua as a teacher who devoted his life to education and service.
Ruto said his work had touched generations and left a lasting impact on those he taught.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua similarly mourned Mwalimu Karua, recalling his contribution as a teacher and his role in shaping the lives of those he encountered.
Gachagua said Mwalimu Karua had also played a significant role in raising Martha Karua and her siblings, whose contributions to Kenya’s post-independence history, he noted, remained significant.
He conveyed his condolences to the wider Karua family and prayed for the late teacher’s soul to rest in eternal peace.
