A Machakos University student died after he was attacked by suspected thugs in Machakos town.
Machakos sub-county criminal investigations officer Fredrick Ikaal said the male student succumbed at Kenyatta National Hospital on Sunday.
Police said he was attacked by thugs at Kathemboni area within Machakos township on December 1.
The incident led to protests by Machakos University students who are currently on a rampage.
The students went to the streets after learning of the death of the student.
This prompted running battles within Machakos town streets.
This is the second time the students are demonstrating what they term as increased insecurity among their comrades after another barely last fortnight.
Security officers during the last demonstrations held a meeting with the students’ leadership chaired by Machakos County police commander Issa Mohammud before the protests were called off.
Tension mounted on Monday in the town amid fears of more chaos.
