Police launched investigations after the body of an unidentified man was found lying in a pool of blood along the Kakamega–Malava Road in Kakamega County.
The murder was reported on Saturday morning after the body was discovered at Lumusiati ‘B’ Village in Kabras West Sub-County.
Police officers responded to the scene and found the body of an unknown adult male lying a short distance off the main Kakamega–Malava Road.
The deceased had sustained deep cut wounds to the back of the head and shoulder, indicating he had been violently attacked.
The scene was visited by officers from the Kakamega North Sub-County Criminal Investigations Office (SCCIO) and detectives from Imbiakalo Police Station, who processed and documented the scene.
The body was moved to Kakamega County General Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting identification and a post-mortem examination.
Police have launched investigations to establish the identity of the deceased, the motive for the killing and to trace those responsible.
Elsewhere, police in Kakamega County arrested five members of the same family after a 30-year-old man died while undergoing treatment following an alleged assault.
The incident was reported on Friday, prompting officers to visit Emulunya Village in Emasatsi Sub-location, Kisa East.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased, identified as Justus Mkaka Aswani, was allegedly assaulted by his cousins at about 1:00 a.m. after they accused him of breaking window
panes and causing a disturbance while appearing intoxicated.
A relative rushed Aswani to Vihiga Teaching and Referral Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
Police who examined the body at the hospital mortuary noted a large swelling on the back of the head and bruises on the right thigh.
Investigators also recovered a hammer believed to have been used during the assault, and it has been retained as an exhibit.
The scene was documented by investigators, while the body remains at the Vihiga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police said investigations are ongoing before the suspects are arraigned in court.
