In Gesabakwa village, Bomachoge Borabu, Kisii County, a dramatic response has emerged following the death of Elvis Marube, who was found murdered under mysterious circumstances.
Last month, Marube’s body was discovered in his bedroom, apparently struck by a blunt object.
The suspicious nature of his death led the villagers to take drastic measures they decided to bury him inside his own house, expelling his family and accusing them of involvement in the crime.
Local elders performed a traditional Abagusii ritual before digging a grave in Marube’s living room, effectively turning his house into his final resting place.
Elkana Alex, Marube’s uncle, justified the unusual decision, stating, “We decided to make his house his final resting place.”
The community’s discontent grew as the investigation into Marube’s death remained unresolved, prompting them to take further action.
Earlier in the week, villagers organized a 10-kilometre march to the Kenyenya Police Station.
During the protest, they demanded answers not only for Marube’s death but also for ten other recent unsolved murders in the area.
Kenyenya OCPD Gome Sebbe addressed the demonstrators, stating, “We are committed to uncovering the truth behind these killings.”
His statement was meant to reassure the frustrated residents that efforts were being made to resolve the ongoing concerns and bring justice to the affected families.
This unusual and drastic measure by the villagers highlights the intense community pressure on local authorities to solve these crimes and restore a sense of security in the area.
The situation underscores the need for a thorough investigation and effective resolution to address both the specific case of Marube and the broader pattern of violence in the region.
