Rapper musician, Octopizzo has emerged with a reason to explain why these days he is not releasing many songs like in past.
Speaking at the EAEA 2024 awards ceremony in Nairobi on Sunday night, he said that in recent years, he has been releasing only 3 songs every year because he is no longer under pressure.
The artist proclaim that in Kenya there are no new artist who challenge the old artists who started the music a while ago and so every year you will find the same artists from 10 years ago.
The rapper from Kibera indicate that there are more than 15 thousand artists in Kenya, but if you count artists who do music as a business, they cannot exceed 10.
“In Kenya we have a music industry but we don’t have a music business. Artists are doing business with dance, they can’t even reach 10, but if you look at MCK, the artists have registered more than 16, 000,” he added.
“Even if you look at it, since we started, for example I was recognized musically in 2012 but until now we are still in the game, not because we like it but because there are no new artists. I give 3 songs a year these days, I don’t have a race. I made something I wanted to make, right now I’m making another song , I like the song, that is, if I sit without playing the song, it makes me better,” he noted.
At the EAEA 2024 awards, octopizzo won the award for the best Hip Hop song in the East African region for his song ‘Wapi Compe.’
